Autodesk FMDesktop - What's the Scoop?

Last year Autodesk Inc. announced that they would no longer be offering their FMDesktop products. However, they would continue to provide support for FMDesktop subscription customers until January of 2010.

Now that January 2010 has arrived, Autodesk, Inc. has announced that they have selected FM:Systems as their partner for facilities management and under the agreement between the two companies, Autodesk will transition their FMDesktop subscription support to FM:Systems.

FM:Systems will only offer that support for one year. In addition FM:Systems is offering a migration path to their FM:Systems product lines. Other vendors are also offering a migration path for FMDesktop users, so there are choices out there.

Can I continue using FMDesktop?

For many of you the answer here is yes. Many FMDesktop users are happy with the product and see no reason to change. Retired software has historically been used for many years after retirement.

FMDesktop can continue to be used, the only caveat being that it will not work with the Autodesk 2010 products, which means that you cannot move past the 2009 Autodesk product line.

If I continue to use FMDesktop, who will support it?

Simple Solutions has been installing and supporting FMDesktop for over 10 years. We will continue to support the FMDesktop customer database for many years to come.

Will Simple Solutions be selling other CAFM systems?

Yes. Following our model with FMDesktop, we will keep to offering simple and affordable systems. Solutions that we feel best meet our model are Manhattan's CenterStone product and Evolve-FM.
